In-Home Preschool Lessons

inhomepreschool

In-home preschool lessons are perfect for your two- through five-year-old child who doesn’t attend preschool but could benefit from a developmentally appropriate enrichment program.

Activities are generally structured into 30-minute increments, which are flexible according to the needs of the child.

Sessions are 1 or 2 hours long, 1 or more times per week.

Email Ms. Britt with any questions or to schedule a free 15-minute introductory video session, which includes video chatting with your and your child, discussing your child’s interests and needs, and reading all or some of a story to your child, as time permits.

Here are some of the subjects we'll cover:

Circle time with ms britt

Circle Time
We can do a “circle time” to cover the alphabet, colors, shapes, numbers, feelings, days of the week, months of the year, seasons and the weather.
Circle time with one child might not look like a circle, but their very favorite toys are invited to join us to round it out.

Reading!
Your child and I can read together side by side (modeling love of books) or I can read to them any books they pick out from their own collection or the ones I bring.
They can also practice reading to me, either for real with assistance if that’s where they’re at, or for pretend by describing the book to me page by page because that’s also a valuable experience. Let’s reinforce a love of books!

pre-writing skills

Pre-writing skills, including art, beading with pipe cleaners, and other fine motor skills.
Helping children want to learn to write is an important part of the process. I’ll help them learn to write their name and other things that are important to them as they become ready. At first, this might look like squiggles, but it will have meaning to them and will teach them that they can make marks that have meanings for other people, too.

grossmotorskills

Gross motor skills, like hopping, jumping, crawling, scooting, and later, skipping.
We’ll work on coordination, walking like different animals, and crossing the midline to help with reading.

playing instruments together

Music!
We’ll play along to your child’s favorite songs and make up new songs as we go. I’ve been a drum teacher for almost 20 years and if you have a little drum set, we can incorporate a legit drum lesson into the mix. Otherwise, I’ll bring hand percussion like maracas, egg shakers, hand drums, xylophone, and drum pad with drum sticks. If you don’t mind screen time and want your child to record their own songs, I have GarageBand on my phone where your child can “play” digital instruments like “guitar” and “piano” (they’ll be touching a screen that looks and sounds like those instruments) and we’ll record their creations.

artsandcrafts

Arts & Crafts
This also ties in fine motor skills, and could even include gross motor skills depending on the activity.
We’ll use crayons, colored pencils, markers, construction paper, glue, or other preschool tools to create art.
Some of this will be process art, where the child gets to experience and interact with the art supplies as they choose. These pieces don’t necessarily “look like anything” in particular and are more of an exploration that will mean something deeply personal to each child.
The crafts will be more guided with an intended outcome and the goal of following instructions and creating something specific.

counting

Counting and math skills will likely be worked in here and there instead of being a 30-minute activity. However, if your child is at the point of wanting longer math sessions then we can definitely have a more focused cluster of math activities.
